Our core team was brought together because of their extensive experience in the healthcare manufacturing sector and/or expertise in aspects of container design. The SteriZign design team and engineers have deep experience with sterile processing departments and surgical suites. They not only assure that our trays are clinically relevant and easy for surgical staff and SPD techs to handle; they also make sure that our products are manufactured using a GMP quality system and that they meet, AAMI, AORN, OSHA and sterilizer manufacturer recommendations and guidelines for weights and loads.

Sonia Lutarewych

president

Sonia is the founder and president of SteriZign Precision Technologies, and is responsible for leading the strategic planning, funding and financial management, recruitment and operations of the company. She is a proven leader in sales and customer relationship management, and has specialized in the healthcare industry since 1989, working for R. Bard, Inc., Acufex Microsurgical, Inc., STERIS Corporation and Intuitive Surgical, Inc. She has managed sales for electrosurgical generators, arthroscopy instruments and implants, operating room lights, tables and accessories, endoscopy equipment, sterilization equipment, and daVinci robotics systems. Her customer relationship management role has taken her into cadaver labs during procedure training, into operating rooms during surgeries, and into sterile processing departments during daily reprocessing functions. Her deep understanding of these healthcare environments has enabled her to bring together the best available talent for her target market and product lines.

Barbara Lutarewych

director of business affairs

Barbara Lutarewych is a seasoned healthcare business administrator with 30 years of experience in building and managing healthcare practice networks and operations. Her expertise includes healthcare finance and revenue generation, healthcare software development, healthcare billing, authorization and delivery, provider recruitment, contract negotiation, credentialing documentation and issue resolution. Barbara holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Carleton College, Northfield, MN, and a Master of Business Administration, with concentrations in marketing, managerial economics and policy, from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.

Michael Averell

director of engineering and new product development

Mike is responsible for all new product development operations, from initial prototypes through final product. He also works with our manufacturing partners to coordinate smooth production operations and time lines. He has over thirty years of manufacturing, design and innovation experience. He was with Riley Medical, a custom sterilization tray manufacturer, as design and fabricating specialist from 1998-2008. Mike managed the complete custom sterilization tray order process, from concept development through prototype construction, and for establishing production efficiencies. While with Riley, Mike was also involved with technology product development. He has been recognized in the industry for his contributions to innovation in sterilization tray design. Mike holds two patents for products in the sterilization marketplace.

Mark Osborn

director of design development

Mark is responsible for all aspects of container design, in all formats. He has over 30 years of mechanical design and engineering experience and has vast knowledge of prototype development in plastics and metal custom manufacturing markets. Mark joined Riley Medical as a custom sterilization tray engineer in 2001, and has designed hundreds of trays using both metal and plastics. During his career, Mark introduced innovative ideas that were recognized by customers as improving functionality. Mark also has experience in 3D solid modeling, Solidworks®, Catia®, Intergraph®, 2D modeling and drawing creation, Autocad®, Gometrics tolerances, and sheet metal bending. He is certified in stereo lithography prototyping, the Unix® operating system, SDRC design simulation, and C-MOLD plastic flow simulation.

Dave Kacynski

Dave supervises all aspects of SteriZign manufacturing operations. He has amassed more than 20 years of manufacturing and engineering experience, including the skills required for plastic injection molding, thermoforming and metal work. He is accomplished at working with CNC machines, press brakes, and punch and laser systems. He served for eight years as the manufacturing supervisor for Riley Medical, and is Six Sigma certified for LEAN manufacturing.

Robin S. Baum

communication director

Robin Baum has been an independent writer, editor and media relations professional since 2013. She has broad and deep experience in various aspects of corporate, nonprofit and literary writing, editing and media relations, including 13 years as a healthcare industry writer and media relations manager for a global medical device manufacturer, and 26 years writing and editing for nonprofit organizations, healthcare start-ups, small businesses and sole proprietors in Ohio and around the U.S. Robin currently serves on the Lake Health Foundation Board of Trustees (Ohio) and is an active member of several Ohio arts, leadership and healthcare nonprofits. She also facilitates or contributes to special projects for local education, governmental and charitable organizations. Robin holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and a certificate in business management from Lakeland Community College.
